JOCELYN HAS BEEN FEATURED ON:

Infertility is a rising concern worldwide. Despite ongoing research into the various factors contributing to male infertility, it appears one element may have been overlooked: the relationship between the number of infertile siblings and abnormal sperm parameters.

A recent study looked to fill this gap by examining whether having one or more infertile brothers serves as a prognostic indicator for abnormal sperm characteristics, potentially helping to identify men at risk of infertility.

The research involved collecting semen samples from male partners of couples experiencing infertility, alongside demographic information related to family history. Findings revealed that having at least one infertile brother significantly correlated with abnormal sperm count and motility, suggesting that this familial factor could serve as an important warning sign.

Consequently, the study recommends that men with one or more infertile brothers undergo sperm analysis to better assess their fertility health and navigate their reproductive options. A worthwhile avenue to explore for couples investigating their fertility.
