JOCELYN HAS BEEN FEATURED ON:

Here’s a fun post as many Canadians have been glued to their screens to follow their favourite hockey teams through the NHL playoffs this spring: an interesting new study from St. Mary’s University in Halifax and UBCO in Kelowna has examined the link between sports events and short-term fertility spikes.

The study used betting odds to differentiate between expected and unexpected wins and losses between 2008 and 2019 and found that exposure to an unexpected win predicted a 1% increase in fertility rates in the respective metropolitan area. The study proposed this was a result of greater likelihood of pre-game gatherings on sports nights and celebratory sex after the “euphoria of an unexpected win.”

Even more reason to hope Canadians teams continue to make it all the way to the Stanley Cup finals!

I hope you have found this helpful, and do let me know if you have any questions!
